We have just wrapped up our summer 2023 intern program and it was a huge success. We’re incredibly proud of the interns who joined us. The interns were tasked with developing a 2U CubeSat to fly on a high-altitude balloon (HAB) with tech demo payloads for future applications by Quantum Space.

There is a lot of talk about the need for SSA (Space Situational Awareness) and SDA (Space Domain Awareness), and sometimes these terms are used interchangeably. However, there is an important difference, and the distinction matters. As this is key to our mission, we thought we’d take the time to break it down. 

We’re back from Smallsat! It was a great week, and we enjoyed connecting in person with so many partners, customers and industry professionals. The program was inspiring and informative as well, as we listened to and learned from government and commercial space organizations about their upcoming missions, new technologies and plans for the future in the new economy and ecosystem of space. Here are a few of the themes we saw again and again – in meetings, presentations and conversations in Logan.

Space debris is an existential threat that is only increasing and can be a huge risk to spacecraft on orbit as well as human safety of crewed missions as we journey farther and farther from Earth. There are currently more than 27,000 objects being tracked by domestic and international governments and a growing cadre of commercial companies.

Sue Hall is Quantum Space’s VP of Programs. She has more than 30 years of aerospace technical and management leadership in the space industry, and is a critical part of delivering on Quantum Space’s mission. 

When it comes to OTVs, just like Goldilocks and her three bears, there IS too big, too small and “just right.” We believe after factoring in the limitations of physics, commercial viability, and economies of scale, our Ranger OTV hits the sweet spot for size — especially for the challenging environments of GEO and cislunar space.

We’re fortunate to have a talented crew of interns joining us at Quantum Space this summer. They are an important part of our team and are making significant contributions to our work. We wanted to take a moment and shine a spotlight on these talented young people. These folks are going places!
